SUMMARY:Town Hall: Health Disparities in our Community
DESCRIPTION:From Councilmember Herb Wesson: \nAs this crisis has unfolded\, we’re seeing evidence of what many of us have experienced first-hand for too long: that our healthcare system is inadequate and stacked against working-class communities and communities of color. \nAcross the country\, we’ve been seeing reports of Black Americans with lower rates of testing and higher death rates than the general population. With less access to quality healthcare on average\, it’s no surprise that this virus\, which we all know can spread without any symptoms\, is hitting communities of color the hardest. This crisis is making one thing abundantly clear: It’s time we start treating systemic racism like the public health crisis it is. \nThat’s why on Thursday\, I’ll be joining with some of my elected colleagues and public health experts from across the county to host a virtual town hall on health disparities in our community. We’ll talk about what’s gotten us here\, what we can do about it now\, and how we can do better in the future. \nPlease join us for this important conversation. Please click here to register.

DESCRIPTION:From Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson: \nI am deeply troubled by the recent violent incidents in our community. These senseless shootings\, leaving our residents injured and anxious\, are completely unacceptable. \nCOVID-19 is causing so much uncertainty.
