The Rail to Rail bikeway along Slauson opened May 17, 2025. Supervisor Holly Mitchell shares:
Between my experiences growing up riding my bike through the alleys that connect Leimert Park to hearing from advocates decades ago while I was the then – President of California Black Women’s Health Project – of turning the railroad tracks along Slauson Avenue into a walking path- it was a full-circle moment to be able to officially open Metro’s new pathway along Slauson Avenue – a place where many will have their first bike ride and be able to walk through their community safely.
The pathway is a vibrant 5.5-mile community asset where you can walk, run, or bike—all while connecting to the K, J, and A Metro Lines.
This project has been years in the making. It began under the leadership of Mark Ridley-Thomas, and I’m proud to have helped see it through alongside colleagues from all levels of government, in close partnership with the community, who showed up in full force for the grand opening. And a special thank you to Paralympians Jamal Hill and Natália Mayara for joining us.
Thank you to Metro’s CEO Stephanie Wiggins and the entire Metro team and all the community partners who made this possible. Stay tuned this September for the official name of the Rail-to-Rail pathway which will be selected from submissions by local residents.
