The new initiative, an historic agreement between LADWP and the Bureau of Street Lighting is to identify and install up to 60,000 solar street lights across the city over the next two years.

The groundbreaking means the end of the Sears store and nearby parking lot. In its place there will be 92 homes built as part of phase one.

To improve traffic safety, LADOT is removing the morning and afternoon rush-hour parking restrictions on Vernon that previously allowed drivers to use the curbside area as a travel lane.
