The LA Times reported about the bewildering unexplained delays in construction of the Destination Crenshaw project and the lack of communication and go forward plan on August 14, 2026.
- “A $100-million Destination Crenshaw makeover meant to celebrate Black L.A. has instead left Crenshaw Boulevard a fenced-off, parking-starved construction zone that neighbors call “Procrastination Crenshaw.”
- After years of silence from project leaders, a packed Crenshaw town hall spurred Mayor Karen Bass to send city crews to tear down barricades, restore parking and begin long-delayed clean-up.”
The open air art display and gathering spot was propsed in 2016, begun in 2021 and has been stalled for some time.

PMHCC President KimMarie Johnson-Roussell is quoted, “She said the council represents 50,000 people and she now feels it has no power to protest anything built on Crenshaw Boulevard.
Harris-Dawson “took that power out of us and sent it to Destination Crenshaw,” Johnson-Roussell said.”
