From Congresswoman Bass:

Three weeks ago, the world witnessed a horrific crime on the streets of Minneapolis — the slow, shameless murder of George Floyd.

His tragic death has galvanized the entire nation to take a deep look at our history of gross injustice in policing, and the deeper context of a system that makes those injustices possible. As a result, for the last two weeks, we have seen Americans across the nation and from every background marching peacefully to demand change.

That is why I introduced a bill last week, along with Senator Cory Booker and our own Senator Kamala Harris, H.R. 7120 — The Justice in Policing Act.

This bold, transformative legislation can change the culture of policing, raise the standards of the profession and hold accountable those officers who use excessive force.

I’d like to discuss the details of this bill with you and your neighbors, which is why I hope you’ll join me on Thursday, June 18th at 6:00 PM PT for a telephone town hall discussion.
