In September 2024, Governor Newsom signed Senate Bill 572 (SB 572), requiring the State’s Department of General Services (DGS) to sell the site below fair market value to a community land trust (CLT). SB 572 also named the LA Black Worker Center (LABWC) to provide recommendations to DGS for the sale and redevelopment of the former EDD site into an affordable housing or mixed-use housing development. The firm, Estolano Advisors, is currently collaborating with LABWC to conceptualize and implement a community-driven process in shaping the vision for the site and develop community-led recommendations.
This meeting will also be a space to learn about the site history, background, and the project context. This conversation will serve as our first touch point in the engagement and community visioning process.
