The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, 8th District, held a ribbon cutting to unveil the newly-renovated Angeles Mesa Park located in the Park Mesa Heights community of the City of Los Angeles on 48th St. and 8th Ave. on May 17, 2021.

The project honored Johnnie Raines Jr. who helped form the Empowerment Congress and 2nd Street block club. Two of his sons spoke on the occasion and remarked that he would have say to take care of it, make sure it is always safe and everyone enjoys it.

Horace Tapscott who formed the Pan African People’s Arkestra was also honored on this occasion and was represented by Momma Tapscott’s daughter, Renee Tapscott Wilcox.
