As the 2021-2022 Fiscal Year funding window was coming to a close, the Park Mesa Heights Community Council invited all qualified community organizations to submit requests for Neighborhood Purposes Grants. PMHCC Treasurer Roozbeh Kaboli ably fielded many requests, clarified qualifying criteria and directed inquirers to complete applications. PMHCC met for a specially scheduled meeting on May 25 to hear the requests and vote on the funding. The board voted to support the community with the following grants:

Rock The Block will be day filled with entertainment, conversation, community and FUN hosted by White Hall Arts Academy! Held on Sunday July 31, 2022 on 54th Street from 7th to 4th Aves family focused programming will include a Main Stage, a Kids Corner featuring a Rising Stars Stage, activations with community partners like TEC Leimert and local vendors and food trucks. The Main Stage, located in front of White Hall Arts Academy on 54th Street between 6th and 7th Aves, will feature empowering performances by recording artists like Shanice, Guordan Banks, Flatbush Zombies, TV stars Sierra Capri, Sanai Victoria, and DJs like PJ Butta (KDAY) and DJ QuessCoast to inspire the next generation and uplift the community. Hyde Park Farmer’s Market, $3,750 to support operating expenses of running a farmer’s market 

hyde park farmers marketThe Park Mesa Heights Community Council area is home to approximately 30,000 residents. Closure of the Ralph’s grocery store in May 2021 has left many community members without a retail outlet to access fresh produce and food. The Hyde Park Farmers’ Market will provide residents with an opportunity to purchase regionally grown produce and food products, in our neighborhood council area.

The Hyde Park Farmers’ Market (operated by the Hyde Park Organizational Patnership for Empowerment, H.O.P.E.) will be open, accessible, free of charge, and advertised to the general public. Our farmers’ market manager will obtain the proper event insurance and serve as our liasion to all appropriate governmental agencies.

Our farmers’ market manager and operator (Dorothy Pirtle) is a resident of the Park Mesa Heights community and has over twenty years of food sector experience. She has experience as a farmers’ market manager, chef, baker, farmer and also holds a variety of food safety and sanitation credentials. Her business, Lily of the Nile provides food and public policy consulting. Her firm is a minority and woman owned business.
